How did I go on my 2023 resolutions?
What shall I resolve for 2024? Ideas?
1. Fight for new hospital budget
- ✅ we got some money and resources back in the budget, however I think we still need to keep a strong eye on the hospital build!
2. Advocate for best deal for 3 Waters
- ✅ while a change of government sees the 3 waters model changing, we still need to work how how we’re going to pay for all the necessary infrastructure to deliver safe drinking water and dispose of waste water in an environmentally friendly manner. We’re still going to have to find a way to make three waters work in a smart and budget friendly way for our residents!
3. Be easily accessible – Run weekly Councillor Clinics
- that’s a tick ✅ And I’ll keep on being available for everyone to chat and bring their council concerns to!
4. Save buildings – Create Heritage Action Plan
- ✅ adopted in December. Now to implement it!
5. Help Nature – activate our environment strategy
- 😬back on the 2024 list- while we worked on the Zero Carbon plan and I got a Climate Adaptation Plan on the workstream I’m frustrated about this. As Chair of this strategy I’ll be pushing the Environment Strategy refresh hard!
6. Push to raise Dunedin’s profile – become a leading destination
- ✅we adopted the destination plan. Now we need to implement it to make sure we attract quality visitors and ensure they support our regenerative tourism and conservation outcomes for our proud heritage and wildlife capital of NZ.
7. Revive and deliver promised strategies
- 😬Frustratingly a work in progress. 2023 proved very challenging to advance this work, hoping to get these back on track.
8. Work on better business and economic outcomes
- 😬While I’ve worked a a mentor and on the steering group for the tourism sector, we definitely haven’t nailed this one. 2024 will see a focus on the Economic Development Strategy refresh, which needs us all to work together on, especially with the challenging economic environment.
9. Address cost of living through better budget control
- 😬as we do our long term 2024-34 budget we’re facing huge headwinds with increasing costs to Councils and to our communities. I’ll be supporting responsible investment and strong budgeting balance. As a sole parent I’m extremely aware of the costs to households balances with the need to create the best place in NZ so we can have a thriving city!
10. Work hard to create NZ’s most liveable city
- ✅ This goal is always top of mind to me. I’m conscious that when we make decisions we are making them for everyone who chooses to live, work, play, study and invest in Dunedin. We still need to focus on what we can improve to lift everyone up!
